PE TeachersTEP’s PE teachers will each have 4 core responsibilities: *Develop, refine, and implement TEP’s Physical Education Curriculum by teaching each class of TEP students PE for one 45-minute period, 3 days each week. The curriculum emphasizes physical fitness and a primary goal of the program is to ensure that students are physically active throughout the entire PE period. In addition, the PE teacher will lead a sports-focused activity during TEP’s extended-day program. During good weather, TEP PE classes (and extended-day sport activities) currently take place on a large track and field adjacent to TEP's incubation classrooms. *Lead TEP’s on-site school food program which provides all TEP students with breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. (The vast majority of TEP students will qualify for free or reduced price lunch.) In this capacity, the PE teacher will: (a) work closely with the school chef to design fresh nutrient rich, balanced meals, (b) oversee the program’s implementation (includes the supervision of food program staff), and (c) supervise students during school breakfast and lunch times. Note that some elements of this role will not be fully relevant until TEP moves into its permanent facility and has its own kitchen and food staff. *Lead TEP’s School Health Council, a group of students, parents, school and food services staff, teachers, health professionals and community representatives that will advise TEP on the school’s nutrition and physical activity policies and practices, and mobilize support for the school’s overall wellness program. *Forge collaborations with health education and community-based organizations to enhance the health curriculum, develop opportunities for increased family and community involvement, and provide evaluation tools by which to measure improvements in student health, fitness, and nutrition. |
