PE/Health TeachersTEP’s PE/Health teachers will each have 4 core responsibilities: *Develop, refine, and implement TEP’s Physical & Health Education Curriculum by teaching each class of TEP students PE/Health for one 45-minute period, 3 days each week. The curriculum will include physical fitness, nutrition, and general health and will emphasize interdisciplinary learning by integrating health content into other subject-area classes. In addition, the PE/Health teacher will lead a sports-focused activity during TEP’s after-school program. *Lead TEP’s on-site school food program which provides all TEP students with breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. (The vast majority of TEP students will qualify for free or reduced price lunch.) In this capacity, the PE-Health teacher will: (a) work closely with the school chef to design fresh nutrient rich, balanced meals, (b) oversee the program’s implementation (includes the supervision of food program staff), and (c) supervise students during school breakfast and lunch times; this means the PE/Health teacher will arrive at school by 7:30 AM. *Lead TEP’s School Health Council, a group of students, parents, school and food services staff, teachers, health professionals and community representatives that will advise TEP on the school’s nutrition and physical activity policies and practices, and mobilize support for the school’s overall wellness program. *Forge collaborations with health education and community-based organizations to enhance the health curriculum, develop opportunities for increased family and community involvement, and provide evaluation tools by which to measure improvements in student health, fitness, and nutrition. |
