Language Development

A second core component of TEP’s educational program is its focus on language development.

All TEP students spend their days with 6 core teachers, each of whom has demonstrated outstanding verbal ability. Research indicates that high teacher verbal ability is correlated to high student outcomes and that exposure to adults with high verbal aptitude can be a key factor in students’ successful language development. Moreover, in addition to learning the 4 standard subjects—English, Social Studies, Math, and Science—all TEP students take four years of Latin and Music, subjects that highlight TEP’s intensive focus on language development.

TEP supports language development in classrooms through two unique components: (a) an emphasis on student writing through a high volume of written assignments in all subject areas and (b) the explicit teaching of linguistic structures and techniques – such as word origins (derivatives from Latin), grammar, and expressive presentation – to promote technical quality in student reading, writing, and speech.
