Extended-Day Program

TEP’s mandatory extended-day program runs daily from 3 to 4 PM. It is mandatory for TEP students and is considered part of the TEP school day. TEP does not contract its extended-day program to outside providers; instead TEP teachers develop and fully staff the extended-day program.

3 days per week during the extended-day hour, students participate in one semester-long extra-curricular activity designed to be fun and develop a sense of community.  Each teacher designs and leads one extra-curricular activity for the extended-day program; at the beginning of the school year, each student ranks his or her preferences from a list of the various extended-day activities being offered that year; each student is assigned to one activity each semester, taking into account that student’s preferences. Examples of extended-day activities include sports, art, chess, jazz band, student newspaper, and web-design.

2 days per week during the extended-day hour, students receive extra assistance in a variety of academic areas. Some students participate in a basic skill-building program in reading or math designed for students whose skills are significantly below grade level. These students work with teachers in small, leveled groups of students. Other students participate in alternate activities such as Homework Help, Reading Room, or Instrumental Practice.
